Judges 2: 11-15
(Matthews Bible)
And then the children of Israel did wickedly in the sight of the 11 LORD, and served Baalim, and forsook the LORD God of their 12 fathers, which brought them out of the land of Egypt, and followed strange gods, even of the gods of the nations that were round about them, and bowed themselves unto them, and angered the LORD. And so they forsook the LORD and served 13 Baal and Astharoth. Wherefore the LORD waxed angry with 14 Israel, and delivered them unto the hands of raveners to spoil them and sold them into the hands of their enemies round about them, so that they had no power any longer to stand before their enemies. But unto whatsoever thing they went, the 15 hand of the LORD was upon them with evil luck, even as the LORD promised them, and as he sware unto them.

summary:

In these verses, Israel’s disobedience reaches a peak as they start worshipping other gods, abandoning the Lord. This provokes the Lord’s anger and leads Him to hand them over to raiders who plunder them. He also sells them into the hands of their enemies all around, whom they can no longer resist.

The Cycle of Sin
Judges 2:10-19 outlines the cycle of sin, oppression, repentance, and deliverance that characterizes the period of the Judges. Each generation turned away from God, leading to oppression by surrounding nations until they cried out for help.

Judges 2 is a significant chapter in the Bible that explores the recurring cycle of disobedience, punishment, repentance, and deliverance that characterizes Israel’s relationship with God. This chapter marks the transition from Joshua’s leadership to the era of the Judges, illuminating how the Israelites repeatedly fall into sin and are rescued by Judges, appointed by God.
