We Love Memoirs Day
Romans 14:15-19
(the voice translation)
If the food you eat harms your brother, then you have failed to love him. Do not let what you eat tear down your brother; after all, the Anointed laid down His life for him. 16 Do not allow people to slander something you find to be good 17 because the kingdom of God is not about eating and drinking. When God reigns, the order of the day is redeeming justice, true peace, and joy made possible by the Holy Spirit. 18 You see, those who serve the Anointed in this way will be welcomed into the whole acceptance of God and valued by all men. 19 Join us, and pursue a life that creates peace and builds up our brothers and sisters.
summary:
Paul warns against being a stumbling block for others through personal liberty. While all food is clean, it is wrong for a person to eat anything that causes someone else to stumble. He emphasizes the Kingdom of God is not about eating and drinking but righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit. Paul concludes by urging believers to seek peace and mutual edification, and to keep personal beliefs about disputable matters between themselves and God.
Avoiding Stumbling Blocks: Romans 14:13
Therefore, let us stop judging one another. Instead, make up your mind not to put any stumbling block or obstacle in your brother’s way. We are called to be considerate of others’ weaknesses and avoid causing them to stumble.
Pursuing Peace and Edification (Romans 14:19)
So then, let us pursue what leads to peace and to mutual edification. The focus should be on building each other up and fostering peace within the community.
Romans 14 invites us to a complex discussion on diverse beliefs within the Christian community, specifically around dietary habits and observance of special days. Paul emphasizes tolerance, acceptance, and unity, reminding the believers that each will stand before God’s judgement and therefore they must refrain from judging each other.
hope you have a great day!
