The Narcissists Game: concealment and self-deception
This is the narcissist’s game of life, the game of concealment of who they are and what they are about and presenting a constructed self which is how they wish to be perceived by the other and by society.
Thus the narcissist comes to play the life game, the “challenge”, not so much of their own choosing, but one that they have to play in order to live on this physical plane on planet earth.
The narcissist’s belief is that if they can manage to get others to believe that their false-self is true, that their false-self is indeed their true self, then this serves the purpose of making the narcissist believe it too. At least for now, until the narcissist inevitably gets to have one of those b***** things known as ‘reality checks’.
Yes that is correct, no one, even the narcissist, can keep their true self hidden forever.
Thus, the narcissist is actually attracted to a person who will welcome their invented self, in a bid to confirm their fantasy and exaggerated sense of self. If someone looks behind the curtain and declines to be trampled on, then one is sure that the narcissist will be repelled by such an individual.
The narcissist has their antennae up for the people who are going to validate their grandiose self-constructed self, and those which are going to provide them with a reality check. And the narcissist takes great pains to ‘enthral’ the former type of people.
But because there are more of the latter type of people roaming around than the former type, it actually is a challenge.
