Boris Pasternak wins Nobel Prize for “Dr. Zhivago,” later forced to refuse the honor: history.com …“On October 23, 1958, Boris Pasternak is awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature for Doctor Zhivago, his romantic novel set against the backdrop of the Russian Revolution. The book was banned in the Soviet Union, and the Soviet government forced the author to renounce the honor. Pasternak was born in Russia in 1890, and by the time of the Russian Revolution was a well-known avant-garde poet. His work fell into disfavor during the 1920s and 1930s as the communist regime of Joseph Stalin imposed strict censorship on Russian art and literature. During this time, Pasternak eked out a living as a translator. In 1956, he completed the book that would make him a worldwide name. Doctor Zhivago was an epic love story set during the tumult of the Russian Revolution and World War I.”

Government Shutdown Clock – The White House whitehouse.gov

… I know this is kind of off topic for the post, but I was looking for info on the government shutdown and came across this link (above), so I wanted to share it with you. I’ll probably be adding it to future posts, and my home page, at least until the government reopens.
The US Gov has been shut down now for 22 days, and counting – but this isn’t the longest shutdown. That happened in December 22, 2018,and lasted to January 25, 2019. This shutdown was primarily due to a dispute over funding for a border wall proposed by then-President Donald Trump.
