When will the government shutdown end? Update, odds on next Senate vote to reopen: Delaware Online …(October 24, 2025)“The federal government shutdown has hit Day 24 and is now the second longest shutdown in United States history since it began on Oct. 1, 2025, but how much longer is it expected to last? Here’s an update on the next Senate vote and the odds of a funding bill passing to reopen any time soon. On Thursday, Oct. 23. the Senate adjourned until Monday, Oct. 27 without taking a vote on legislation to fund the government although they did vote on a new measure, called the Shutdown Fairness Act, that would have paid federal workers, military members and contractors who have continued to work during the shutdown; that measure failed.
