Do narcissists ever rest?
No, they don’t at least, not the kind most of us imagine.
One of the worst things about being with a narcissist is that they can’t just be quiet. They’re not resting even if they spend hours in front of the TV. Their minds are always active, plotting and scheming and searching and burnishing their image. They don’t rest they just collapse from fatigue.
True rest means feeling relaxed and content, something they only sporadically, if at all, experience. Narcissists are always starving for attention, admiration, and approval. It’s close to addictive unless they’re receiving their “fix,” they begin to feel a scorching emptiness, even terror. That compels them to continue seeking more, either through individuals, work, melodrama, or manipulation.
They have fragile egos, constructed on the attainment of perfection and impunity from struggle with who they actually are. If they stepped back, then, they would be forced to confront unpleasant realities their own agony, frailties, and causing others to suffer. But their self-concept will prevent it.
So, they keep themselves busy. Constantly in motion, constantly plotting, constantly distracting themselves from the silence that would force self-awareness. It’s not only exhausting to witness it’s an eternally boundless cycle of suffering for them.

…in my experience with my ex, he absolutely could not stand quiet time. There was always something playing in the background! A radio, TV, anything to keep from having to hear his own thoughts.
He could not lay on the couch and listen to the quietness, nor could he sit outside and listen to nature talk. Yes, sometimes our thoughts get loud – that’s when we most need quiet time. Go for a quiet walk. Keeping background noise on in is usually just a distraction. Listening to music is good, but so is listening to your own thoughts.
Don’t get me wrong, there’s nothing wrong with listening to music, or listening to something on tv…but to constantly have noise in the background may not be the healthiest thing.
hope you have a great day!
thanks for stopping by!!
Government Shutdown Clock – The White House
…Day 26 – and counting ~ this will be a new part of my posts until the gov opens back up…
When will the government shutdown end? Update, odds on next Senate vote to reopen: Delaware Online …(October 24, 2025)“The federal government shutdown has hit Day 24 and is now the second longest shutdown in United States history since it began on Oct. 1, 2025, but how much longer is it expected to last? Here’s an update on the next Senate vote and the odds of a funding bill passing to reopen any time soon. On Thursday, Oct. 23. the Senate adjourned until Monday, Oct. 27 without taking a vote on legislation to fund the government although they did vote on a new measure, called the Shutdown Fairness Act, that would have paid federal workers, military members and contractors who have continued to work during the shutdown; that measure failed. The Senate is expected to vote again on Monday, for what will be their 13th attempt.” … “There is no end in sight to the current government shutdown that started on Oct. 1, 2025, and confidence in how long it will last or when it will end is just as unsure, according to the betting odds on Polymarket.
- 1% believe it will end between Oct. 23-26
- 8% believe it will end between Oct. 27-30
- 11% believe it will end between Oct. 31-Nov. 3
- 15% believe it will end between Nov. 4-7
- 7% believe it will end between Nov. 8-11
- 14% believe it will end between Nov. 12-15
- 44% believe it will end on or after Nov. 16″
- I’ve seen reports that the government will remain shutdown until Christmas.
