FBI Warning: If You Get These Texts On Your Phone—Do Not Reply: Forbes …“The FBI warns that malicious actors are now sending fraudulent messages pretending to be from “senior U.S. officials,” but which are attacks targeting specific individuals. The first contact will come by text, but will then move to an encrypted platform, at which point sensitive, personal information or passwords will be stolen. “If you receive a message claiming to be from a current or former senior U.S. official,” the bureau warns in its new Dec. 19 advisory, “do not assume it is authentic and follow the below recommendations to identify suspicious messages.” Put more simply — do not reply unless and until you can verify the sender. This warning follows an alert the FBI issued in May, which first informed the public about this devious tactic to steal sensitive information and security credentials in this way.”
