…in this photo you find several different sized of firewood – I did this on purpose. From left to right: normal sized wood for day burns or not so cold days, kindling under the wood stove, “all nighters” for those bitter cold nights, and smaller “light” wood to get the coals going again in the morning or to keep the fire going when I’m not ready to put a bigger piece on (like before bed).
Last winter, when we had the deep freeze all I had to burn was smaller pieces and I vowed to myself that I would make sure that I had some bigger pieces, or all nighters. These are pieces that are bigger and will burn most of the night, as long as there is a good bank of coals.
Off camera are a basket and an old coal bucket full of fire starters – bark, sticks, and small chunks of wood, that I use to get a fresh fire going.
I’m glad I did this. With the temps being all over the place so far this season it’s been nice being able to put an appropriate size piece of wood on the fire. Small pieces for the warmer days, bigger pieces for the colder days.
hope you have a great day!
thanks for stopping by!!
What a Way to Start 2026: American Thinker …“Christmas week was rather a slow week, with the big news being the further unraveling of the corruption in Minnesota, Washington state, California, and other Democrat redoubts. But like George Washington crossing the Delaware to beat the Hessians as they rested on Christmas, the U.S. pulled off an incredible military operation capturing Venezuela’s Nicolas Maduro in his pajamas and bringing him back here to answer to criminal charges. The Venezuelan military was largely on Christmas leave and Maduro’s international protectors — the Chinese and Russian forces in Venezuela — were caught flatfooted, diminishing their credibility in the Western Hemisphere. The impact of this operation was enormous.”
