APPALACHIA MOUNTAIN WINTERS
In the mountains, winter has its own folklore, shaped by isolation and the cold weather. People relied on signs like the thickness of persimmon seeds or animal behavior to prepare for what was coming. These were necessary survival skills.
The winter storytelling tradition grew from that environment: oral histories meant to keep the community awake, warm, and connected during long, dark nights. Nature was a good teacher, whether you liked the lesson or not.
