… when I was bringing firewood over to the house on Tuesday I noticed that the cover for the pool had come undone. I should have made a photo of it, but I didn’t. I was more concerned with getting the cover back in place so I could get back to the firewood.

… I was worried that the strap had broken, but that wasn’t the case. It had just gotten loose with all the freezing and thawing. I was also worried that I wouldn’t be able to get the cover back the way it should be, as it was frozen under the snow and ice. Not like it would be the end of the world if I hadn’t been able to correct it, but it would make opening the pool up in the spring that much easier. But I was able to get it free from the ice, and the strap back in place and retightened.
In the 1860’s, newspapers continuously mocked Abraham Lincoln as an ape in their newspaper cartoons, the internet of the day, even after Abe Lincoln was elected president.
These cartoons were not newspaper typos. They were full-blown intentional insults to the President as someone who lacked the brains to be president.
Most Americans today know nothing about these embedded ape cartoons of President Abe Lincoln.
History forgets cartoons. History remembers character. Ink fades. Character endures. Mockers shouts. Integrity whispers.
Cartoons don’t decide legacy, conduct does.
Toxic empathy has overtaken the intellectual honesty and informed history of US citizens. Is it wise to portray anyone in a cartoon as an ape? Of course not. But for those of us who understand history, it’s politics at its worst.
Not racism.

These claims were so preposterous that it was giving 2020’s “81 million” election vibes all over again. And just like with that fiasco, nobody was buying this nonsense either. Well, everyone who thought this rabbit smelled fishy was right. Because as it turns out, this was actually one of the worst Super Bowl halftime performances of all time.”
