It’s finally over! and we can get back to living our lives.

*photo is mine
It all started last Saturday (February 28) when I walked into the work shop area and there was water. Not good! My son and I mopped it up and started looking for where it was coming from.
I couldn’t find any leaky pipes so I went into the basement bathroom – and found a puddle of water. Water was coming up from the shower drain. I got the water down and cleaned up – and we waited. There was no way I was calling anyone over the weekend to clean out the septic. Sorry, but they’re expensive enough without adding an emergency fee on top of everything.
On Monday (March 2) I called a local company and they came out the next day. They got it cleaned out – and I was told there was a clog. I would need to call my plumber. So I called the plumber.
They came out and got it unclogged – but there were roots growing into the pipes. Of course, that needed to be fixed. I probably could have waited a little bit – but I figured it was better to get it taken care of now, since the tank was open and easier to access.
The plumbers came back out yesterday (Tuesday, March 10) and got everything taken care of. I didn’t even know they were coming. I was still in my nightgown! The office never called me.
The pipe had somehow broken, which allowed the roots to get in there.
I opted to have a riser installed, so we don’t have to dig the opening up again. All they have to do is open the lid, syphon everything out and close it back up.
I’m going to keep it short, as my brain is frazzled right now. It’s been a frustrating – and expensive – week. We weren’t able to use the toilet or shower for four days (we used a five-gallon bucket to do our business). We were still able to use the kitchen sink, as it doesn’t go into the septic. So that was a plus. Living in the country does have its benefits – if you know what I mean…
I do want to get a camp toilet at some point. Whenever something happens and we can’t use any water (flush the toilets or shower) it’s always on the weekend and we have to go a couple of days without. My mom used to have one of those bedside toilets but I think it’s long gone. At some point it will happen, but until then it’s either the woods or a five gallon bucket.
At least this is behind us now and I can move on to other things.
hope you have a great day!
thanks for stopping by!!
