Elmer McCurdy was a terrible train robber who was shot by police in 1911. No one claimed his body, so the funeral home embalmed him and displayed him as “the bandit who wouldn’t give up”. He was sold to carnivals and used as a prop in funhouses for 60 years. Thousands of people paid a nickel to see him, thinking he was made of wax. In 1976, a crew filming The Six Million Dollar Man at an amusement park moved the “dummy” and his arm fell off, revealing a human bone. He was finally buried in 1977.
