Pete Hegseth tells Europe that the free ride is over: American Thinker …“For decades, the Europeans were grateful, a gratitude that coincided with their being too weak to stand in their own defense. I mean, the French were always nasty, but, hey, they’re French. Over time, though, other nations joined France in their attitude of non-gratitude. This accelerated after the Soviet Union’s collapse, when we continued to protect Europe. In the years since then, Europe’s leftism hardened, especially as its populations shifted from being European to becoming increasingly third-world. Meanwhile, they sneered at us for lacking the social safety nets they boasted about, never acknowledging that the safety nets came courtesy of American taxpayers, who absorbed Europe’s defense costs. So, here we are in 2026, fighting a war that benefits Europe perhaps more than it benefits America. Yes, we do not want Iran to go nuclear. And no, it’s not analogous to North Korea, which we are not fighting, because North Korea is a hermit kingdom that wants to be left alone. Europe is really the one that should be worried. All things considered, the most logical thing in the world would have been for Europe to aid America and Israel in the current military action. Instead, possibly because European governments are afraid of their growing, strident, radicalized Muslim populations, and because they are filled with America-hating leftists, Europe has done almost nothing to help in this fight, and refuses to step up to help reopen the Strait of Hormuz. Geopolitics will be upturned by the end of this military action, in ways we cannot predict. However, there is a good chance that when the dust settles, Europe will have lost Uncle Sam as its sugar daddy.”
