Extreme heat prepping:
how to survive 110 degree heat without electricity
~ future proof survival ~
…a 10 minute video
“Extreme heat can become life-threatening much faster than most people realize, especially when the power goes out. Without air conditioning, fans, or reliable refrigeration, indoor temperatures can climb rapidly, turning an ordinary home into a dangerous environment. Preparing before a heat emergency is one of the most effective ways to protect yourself and your family.
“In this video, we explore practical strategies for surviving extreme heat during a prolonged power outage. We cover hydration, passive cooling techniques, home insulation, ventilation, shade, emergency water storage, cooling centers, heat illness prevention, and the supplies that experienced preppers rely on when temperatures reach 110°F or higher.
“If you’re interested in emergency preparedness, heat wave survival, off-grid living, disaster readiness, power outage planning, and prepping for 2026, this guide will help you build a practical plan for staying safe during extreme summer conditions.
“We also explain common mistakes people make during heat emergencies, including relying on ineffective cooling methods, waiting too long to hydrate, and failing to recognize the early warning signs of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
“The best time to prepare for extreme heat is before the temperature rises. Watch until the end, because several inexpensive items and simple preparation steps can dramatically improve your ability to stay safe and comfortable during a prolonged blackout.” (future proof survival)
I don’t have ac. Some of this I have already started practicing. Some, I’m going to start.
~ I want to put a mattress in the basement, where it is much cooler.
~ I close the south facing windows and curtains when the sun hits that area, keeping the north facing windows open – even just a couple inches, especially if there’s a breeze. This allows air to circulate.
~ I put a box fan in my bedroom window, facing out. This pulls the air through the house, helping to keep the heat and humidity down.
~ having a pool helps greatly!
~ doing anything that requires strenuous activity in the am or late evening hours, resting during the heat of the day.
~ I have a dehumidifier, which I only use when it’s extremely humid in the house, because I have to close the house up completely, at least initially. After I get the humidity down, I open the windows again – slightly.
– I know there’s other ways to dehumidify the house (salt, charcoal), but I haven’t been able to make it work yet.
– no carpet in the house helps as well, I put sheets on the couch and recliner. The couch and whatnot doesn’t feel as hot this way.
~ of coarse, I have still have electricity – but learning to manage things during a heatwave without ac helps greatly if the day comes when there is no electricity.
I have learned how to keep the house around 80 degrees, even though it’s 100 plus outside.
As I am editing this we are experiencing an extreme heat wave in my area. I am really enjoying my pool, so if my posting times are a little off over the next couple of days, you know why.
hope you have a great day!
thanks for stopping by!!
