If you confront them, they deny and gaslight you or in the case of my X-husband, discharge a gun at you. It’s more of how they act. They suddenly get short with you, nasty, try to pick a fight so they have an excuse to leave to be with their side Chick and blame it on you. Know your worth and leave this A-hole.

… when I was still with my ex, he had gone to the Eastern shore to visit his son. One day he called me out of the blue and said “you know I’d never cheat on you”. I told him the thought had never crossed my mind. He said that some girls started hitting on him, but he didn’t acknowledge the flirtation. We started talking about other things – I can’t remember what, but I eventually hung up on him because things had turned nasty. I turned my phone off for a couple of hours. My excuse was that my phone had died. He wasn’t too happy about it.

While my phone was turned off, I got to thinking. Maybe he was cheating on me. Why would he call me out of the blue like that? He never called me when he was visiting his son, mother or during his hunting trips. Never!

At that point in our relationship I honestly could have cared less if he was cheating on me. Things weren’t good between us. But for him to call me like that, made me suspicious (not that I really cared), and my nonchalant attitude at first made him push things/the conversation to the point that we were arguing. That’s how narcissists work.
