Jude 1:6
(The Voice Translation)
And God has kept the rebellious heavenly messengers bound and chained in utter darkness—shadowy gloom—until the time when His judgment arrives, because they failed to keep their rightful positions and abandoned their appointed realms.
summary:
Israel in the wilderness, the rebellious angels, and Sodom and Gomorrah all show that God rescues but also judges.
verses 5 and 7 for context:
5 Although you are fully aware of this, I want to remind you that after Jesusa had delivered His people out of the land of Egypt, He destroyed those who did not believe.
7 In like manner, Sodom and Gomorrah and the cities around them, who indulged in sexual immorality and pursued strange flesh, are on display as an example of those who sustain the punishment of eternal fire.
Authorship and Date
Jude is almost certainly Judas (Jude in English), half-brother of Jesus and full brother of James (Matthew 13:55; Galatians 1:19). His self-description as “servant” highlights humble submission to the risen Christ. Internal clues and its close link to 2 Peter suggest a date between AD 60–80, before Jerusalem’s fall yet while the apostles’ teaching was still fresh memory.
