It ended up being cheaper than buying replacement parts for the pool I currently have.
Last Thursday – I think it was last Thursday – a branch from a nearby Maple tree fell on my pool, damaging the rim and the ladder.
The new pool is bigger and deeper than the one I have now, which I bought during covid. I will be dealing with the damage until fall/autumn at which time my son and I will take it apart. It seems sturdy enough, just need to keep an eye on the water level. I plan on cutting the bottom off and leaving it as a sort of tarp underneath the new pool. I’ve done that with every new pool, rather than buying a new tarp to put under it.
The sides will be used under my stone walkways – as a weed deterrent. The pools metal (legs/rim) will be saved for a while – maybe I can find something to do with them.
The poles from the last pool are being used in some of my gardens as a sort of fence. Nothing like repurposing!
I guess maybe this is a good thing, buying a new pool. The ladder was messed up because my ex refused to acknowledge that he might be putting it together wrong. He had to use a hammer to get it together – which wasn’t supposed to be. It should just snap together. But I didn’t know what I was talking about! Even though I had put several ladders and pools together by that point.
Also the memories associated with that pool aren’t the best. Not that I get rid of everything he left behind, but sometimes certain things don’t have a good feel. I’ve never liked this pool. I dealt with it because I had no other choice.
He told me he liked swimming but didn’t swim in it. I came to learn he didn’t really like swimming. He’d get in and get wet and want to talk to me (drunk) while I swam laps. Even when we went fishing, he never got in the water except to cast a line. Oh well, he was a good talker I guess.
Anyway, this new pool will probably help me move on. Leave the past in the past.
I hope it lasts longer than this pool did – 6 years.
