When Jesus was entered into Caper-5
naum, there came unto him a certain Centurion, beseeching*
6 him, and saying: Master, my servant lieth sick at home of the
palsy, and is grievously pained. And Jesus said unto him: I 7
will come and cure* him. The Centurion answered and said:8
Sir, I am not worthy that thou shouldest come under the roof
of my house,* but speak the word only, and my servant shall be
healed. For I also myself am a man under power,* and have 9
soldiers under me, and I say to one, go, and he goeth: and to
another, come, and he cometh: and to my servant, do this, and
he doeth it. When Jesus heard these sayings:* he marveled, 10
and said to them that followed him: Verily I say unto you, I
have not found so great faith: no, not in Israel. I say there- 11
fore unto you, that many shall come from the east and west,
and shall rest with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, in the kingdom
of heaven: and the children of the kingdom shall be cast out 12
into the utmost* darkness, there shall be weeping and gnash-
ing of teeth. Then Jesus said unto the Centurion, go thy way, 13
and as thou believed* so be it unto thee. And his servant was
healed that same* hour.

In Capernaum a Roman centurion pleads for his paralyzed servant. Confessing unworthiness for Jesus to enter his home, he asks for a spoken word only. Jesus marvels at such faith and promises, “Go! Jesus’ willingness to heal and deliver reflects His compassion. We are called to show compassion to others, following His example.
