🚨 WALMART & KROGER ARE WATCHING YOU SHOP
Paper price tags are disappearing.
Digital screens that can change the price
based on who’s standing in front of them
are taking over.
The FTC is now looking into it.
Here’s the part they really don’t want you connecting…
Major grocery chains are rapidly replacing traditional shelf tags with electronic screens that can be updated in seconds from a central system.
The official reason is efficiency — no more employees walking the aisles changing paper stickers.
The quiet capability is far more useful: prices can be adjusted in real time. Combined with cameras, app data, loyalty programs, and device signals, the technology opens the door to personalized pricing based on who you are, what you’ve bought before, or even how long you’ve been standing in that aisle.
Watch the corporate response. “We don’t do surge pricing.” “Prices only change overnight.” “This is about accuracy.”
The same companies that spent years collecting every piece of customer data now act shocked that people notice the screens can be used for more than just labor savings.
Funny how the retailers most aggressive about “everyday low prices” are the ones installing the infrastructure that makes variable pricing effortless.
The FTC has opened eyes on the practice. Lawmakers are already floating bills. Once the hardware is in every aisle, the only thing left is the policy decision to start charging different people different prices for the same carton of eggs. They sold it as convenience.
The surveillance layer was always part of the package.
Are digital price tags just a neutral upgrade… or the beginning of stores charging you based on who the cameras say you are?
