I REALLY HOPE WE ARE ALL PAYING ATTENTION.

This could really just be the start of something.

As of Friday, outage trackers are showing roughly 40,000-50,000 customers without power nationally, with outages spread across many states. Massachusetts, California, Texas, South Carolina, Virginia, Washington and Pennsylvania are among the states currently seeing the larger numbers.

The U.S. is experiencing significant fuel-supply pressure

They will say it’s not as serious as it is but that’s not the truth…

But, what do I know I’m just a conspiracy theorist.

I genuinely hope nothing happens.

But start to prepare for the worst. Honestly it’s the best thing you could do right now.

GET YOUR SHIT TOGETHER.

~ Keep flashlights and batteries on hand. …if you can stock up on candles, lamp oil, even solar garden lights…

~ Keep power banks charged.

~ Have drinking water stored. … not just drinking water, especially if power stays off for an extended amount of time. You need water to wash dishes, bathe (even if it’s just sponge baths). toileting, if your heat supply is a wood stove you need water to humidify the house, water for pets… I’d honestly stock up on paper goods (paper plates, paper towels…less washing)

~ Keep several days of food that doesn’t require refrigeration.

~ Don’t routinely let your vehicle get down to empty.

~ Keep some emergency cash if you can.

~ Have necessary medications and basic first-aid supplies.

~ Keep important documents somewhere accessible.

~ Have blankets, warm clothes, and supplies for keeping warm if the power goes out.

~ Have a way to receive emergency information if the internet or cell service goes down.

~ Know where you could go if you had to leave your home.

~ Have a plan for your family-especially children, elderly family members, disabled family members, and pets.

You don’t have to believe me, but stay prepared either way.

As the saying goes, it’s better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it. If nothing happens, you’ll have plenty of water, medication and shelf stable food for a while.

~ Cash
~ water
– when the power goes out and stays out, fill the bathtub, every pitcher/pot/pan – anything that can hold water, turn the power off to the water heater and drain it into buckets. (The water heater can probably wait but know that you have around fifty gallons of water sitting there if needed. Still turn the power off to it )
~ dry goods
– canned food (meats/fruits and veggies/soups/etc.)
~ foods that don’t need refrigeration/cooking
~ candles/lamp oil/lighters/matches
~ paper towels/paper plates/napkins (less washing)
~ rubbing alcohol (hand sanitizer)
~ medication
– pain medicine
– Neosporin/antibiotics
– bandages/gauze
– cold and flu medicine
– allergy medicine
– vaseline
– clean rags/cloth diapers/tampons/maxi pads
– believe it or not tampons and maxi pads can be used in place of band-aids, they absorb a LOT of blood. Clean rags and cloth diapers have a myriad of uses: cleaning, washing, bandages/wound wraps…
~ cleaning supplies
~ protection
– whatever you feel comfortable with; you don’t necessarily need a gun – almost anything can be a weapon (baseball bat/screwdriver/hammer/steak knife); throwing something at the attacker will catch them off-guard and make them flinch, giving you time to get away
~ pet food if you have pets
~ entertainment
– you will get bored pretty quickly
– books, card games, board games

One thing to think about is not drawing any more attention to yourself than necessary. If all the houses on your street are dark and your house is lit up, you just put a target on your back. Keep lighting low, especially at the front, and use black out curtains or put a blanket over the window. Walk around your house and see if you can see any lights. When you go to the store (if that’s possible), where “normal” clothes (jeans and tee shirt?). Again, you don’t want to draw any more attention to yourself than necessary.

Start with what you have and build on it. Do your normal grocery run, but add a can of tuna or peanut butter, for example. Don’t panic buy.

I could add a lot more, but I can’t think of anything at the moment, so I will leave it here.

hope you have a great day!
thanks for stopping by!!
